This post is taken from our Executive Director, Dan O’Deens’ blog:
Who we choose to focus on will make all the difference in the world. As music has invaded our culture the world has created such diversity. I love the rhythm and beat. The Church has even chimed in and wants you to march to their beat. Everyone has their interpretation of what beat best ‘rocks it.’
So if you follow my blog, you know my header is a grouping of ants with one ant kind of out of step with all the others who have seemingly ‘lined up.’ It has been the story of my life. I call my blog, RIGHTEOUSLY RADICAL.
I have chosen to listen to the beat of a different drummer. Sometimes that beat is loud and clearly present. Sometimes I can hardly hear it or feel it.
As I look back upon my life, when the rhythm of life is going well and my relationship with God seems strongest, it is because I am FOCUSED on Him.
There are too many distractions. Many of the distractions are often good…even ‘churchy.’ But REAL LIFE and happiness comes from when I am FOCUSED on Jesus and more importantly DOING what He has asked us to do.
FOCUS on JESUS and what He chose to focus on:
The YOUNG (now generation)
The LOST (people who do not yet have a relationship with Jesus)
The POOR (people who live in material, relational and spiritual poverty)
Henry David Thoreau once said, “If I seem to walk out of step with others, it is because I am listening to another drum beat.”
Whose drum are you listening to?
Hebrews 12:1-3 (Message) We’d better get on with it. Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God. When you find yourselves flagging in your faith, go over that story again, item by item, that long litany of hostility he plowed through. That will shoot adrenaline into your souls!
