Courage To Lead
Listening to Lisa Bevere speak, you will hear her talk about purpose – maybe you were placed here to do something that has never been done before. And that could mean addressing poverty in a brand new way that hasn’t been tried yet. But, it could also mean leading your uniquely placed team – no other six people have come together before that are THESE six people.
This talk instills courage in us as we follow Jesus into things, it can be new beginnings…I mean, if no one has done it before, then is it going to start out large and overflowing with fruit? And here is where I think of the past few years and as I consider 2 Timothy 4:5 warning to keep a clear mind and pushing to fully carry out the ministry in front of me…
I Am Thankful
I am thankful for this ministry, that I, of all people, would be the one placed here.
Leading our leadership development program has literally felt like being on a 0 – 100 ride. (It didn’t exist when I started at Breathe Partners, and now up to a Master’s degree can be earned on the field.) While at the same time, being a slow moving ride in size, visible fruit, and all those other things us humans like to see happening. But I would not have it any other way as the gift of this ministry, crafted for me, has given me what anyone leading small things can expect: treasures of faith that carry more worth than gold.
Be Ready, Be Thankful
It is not an “if”, but a “when”, that we will go through trials in ministry. Throw ‘leading’ in there and the heat seems to get turned up (or maybe that’s just a Haiti, Caribbean nation with little A/C thing?). Leading small things – be ready and be thankful for endurance, being unseen, and way more opportunities to be completely dependent on God than bigger spaces may offer.
Here’s the thing on leading small – when you feel you can’t anymore and then there’s another ‘thing’….there just may not be anyone else! But in these moments of being stretched, ones that you would never ask for or enter into yourself unless forced, a sweet dependence where you learn He is ALWAYS enough.
Don’t miss the gifts in leading small. They may only come in this season – meant to train you up now as a treasure for the future.
