Worship is NOT Music
If you have gone to church just once in your life, you would probably know quickly that churches sing songs. As a church body, we sing to God declaring how worthy He is of all our praise. This is good… However, if we are not taught correctly, we will end up believing that worshipping God can only be done through music. So therefore we believe that worship is music… this is NOT true.
Worship is NOT music. Music is a form of worship, but it is not entirely worship. The true meaning of worship can be found in Romans 12:1 where Paul says,
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice— the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” (Romans 12:1 NLT, emphasis added)
True Worship
True worship happens when we offer our bodies to God as a living and holy sacrifice. Singing songs to God may only be the tiniest fraction of your day. But when we give ourselves to God as a living sacrifice, we are bringing Him along into every single part of our life. Yes, it pleases God when we come together as a body of believers and sing out how great He is! However, coming together as a body may only happen once, maybe twice a week. God deserves so much more than that.
In Romans 12:6 it says, “In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you.” (Romans 12:6 NLT, emphasis added)
Let’s be real… not all of us are singers. If we don’t enjoy singing, then we would hate worship. But singing is not the only way to worship. In Romans 12:6 Paul tells us that God has given us different GIFTS. And whatever your gift may be, do it with as much faith as God has given you! God delights in seeing you use the gifts He has given you. When we use our God-given gifts to glorify Him, that is worship.

Offering up our bodies as living sacrifices by allowing God to use us however He chooses is true worship. Whatever you do in life, do it to glorify God. That is worship. Whatever God asks of you, obey His command. It’s simple, but it can be difficult and easy to forget at times. But giving God control over our lives is true worship. Let’s start worshipping God daily through whatever task He calls us to.
